Welcome message

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to introduce the second elected Young-Executive Board of the European ORL-HNS Confederation. The Young Confederation Group was established in October 2022 to represent the needs and fulfill the expectations of our colleagues under 45 years old. This group is also the result of the foresight of senior CEORL members who recognize that supporting those under 45 is essential for securing the future of our specialty. This shared awareness led to the formation of a working group comprised of specialists from diverse geographical, training, and professional backgrounds.

The Group’s mission is to lay the foundation for a network of experience-sharing within the European landscape. Consequently, the primary objective of this new working group is to promote international exchanges of training and professional experiences among colleagues. Establishing this network will facilitate the creation of research and study programs between European universities and research institutes. Additionally, strengthening social connections will encourage lasting and productive collaborations in the future.

In short, the Young-Executive Board aims to serve Young Confederation members by addressing their training needs and contributing to the development of outstanding European Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck specialists.

The working plan of the Young-Executive Board for the next two years will focus on achieving the following goals:

  • Organizing webinars and quiz posts on social media specifically designed for training ORL-HN specialists;
  • Organizing a European dissection course in November 2025;
  • Creating a video atlas to provide free access to a library of surgical videos edited for educational purposes;
  • Identifying a network of senior ORL-HN specialists offering mentorship opportunities;
  • Increasing the participation of young doctors in training events, both as attendees and faculty;
  • Enhancing international research opportunities.

Before beginning our work, we extend our heartfelt thanks to President Professor Per Cayé-Thomasen, the representatives of the Presidential Council, the senior Executive Board, and the members of the General Assembly. We offer special thanks to the President of the Milan 2022 Congress, Professor Piero Nicolai, for his vision and enthusiasm in supporting the creation of the new Young Confederation Group. We also extend our gratitude to the President of the Dublin 2024 Congress, Professor John Russell, and the Scientific Chair, Professor Michael Kuo, for their support in continuing the Young Confederation project and including us in the scientific program of the 2024 Congress. Additionally, we warmly congratulate the newly elected President, Professor Jan Plzák, with whom we look forward to growing and collaborating over the next four years.

Thank you to everyone who reads this presentation letter. We pledge that the work of the Young Confederation Group will be a mission fulfilled by young people, for young people.
